iPhones bring huge search traffic to Google
Google announced this week that it has seen a significant amount of search traffic from the iPhone.
According to the internet giant, iPhone users generated search traffic 50 times greater than that of any other mobile device.
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Wednesday (February 13th), Vic Gundotra, head of mobile operations at Google, told the Financial Times: "We thought it was a mistake and made our engineers check the logs again."
He maintained that mobile search would overtake fixed internet search "within the next several years" if the trend was to continue.
Mr Gundotra added that both the usage and revenue of the mobile search business were increasing "above expectations".
He added that search contracts, such as that recently awarded to Yahoo! by T-Mobile, were becoming less important.
"The world is changing. Users want an internet without fences. They know how to type in Google.com if they want to get to it.
"Two years ago the operators were still playing the role of gatekeepers but that is no longer the role for them."
