Yahoo claims ad-growth will exceed 30% average
Yahoo expects its revenue from online advertising in emerging markets to increase by more than the industry average of 30 per cent, said Reuters.
The online advertising industry is expected to grow by 30 per cent every year for the next three years as more people gain access to the internet through their mobile phones.
"For Yahoo´s emerging markets, we´re going to grow faster than that," Prashant Mehta, Yahoo´s vice president of emerging markets, told Reuters.
"For many users in the emerging markets, the only way to get online is through a mobile device. For us, the key is delivering a locally relevant product on a mobile platform," he added.
The claim comes after Yahoo unveiled a new version of its award-winning mobile search service oneSearch in April, which allows users to initiate searches through their mobile phones using text or voice.
Yahoo is the world´s second biggest search engine company after Google, and saw its revenue up by eight per cent in 2007 to £854 milllion.
The firm rejected a $45 billion (£23 billion) take-over bid by Microsoft earlier this year.
