US mobile advertising spend set for growth
US spend on mobile advertising is set to see significant growth this year, it has been forecast.
According to a new eMarketer report, entitled Mobile Advertising: After the Growing Pains, US mobile ad spend will reach an estimated $1.7 billion (£856.7 million) in 2008.
This represents a huge increase of 89 per cent on the figure from last year, where spend on mobile advertising totalled $878 million (£442.4 million).
The report also predicted that in 2012 US mobile ad spend would surpass $6.5 billion (£3.3 billion).
It is anticipated that mobile search advertising will account for nearly 23 per cent of mobile ad spend in that year.
John Gauntt, senior analyst for eMarketer and author of the report, commented: "The US will continue to be the most dynamic region for mobile web advertising because of its position as the largest interactive economy."
eMarketer predicted that China and India would see significant growth in mobile ad spend by 2012.
