UK internet population set to rise
Internet consumption in the UK is set to see a significant increase in the next few years, it has been claimed.
New research by eMarketer estimated that the number of Brits going online will rise to 42.8 million in 2012.
That is equivalent to 70 per cent of the UK population.
eMarketer“s report, entitled UK Internet Users and Usage, also revealed that 36.8 million British consumers went online in 2007.
According to the website, Britain has "one of the most experienced and active online populations in the world", displaying a high confidence in e-commerce.
eMarketer maintained that in 2008, 40 per cent of online sale in Western Europe will be accounted for by the UK.
Karin von Abrams, author of the report, commented: "The number of buyers and the average annual spend per buyer are both growing, helping the country to maintain its e-commerce lead over other European nations."
