Opera mobile browsers set to introduce Google as default search engine
Opera Software announced on Wednesday (February 27th) that it has made Google the default search engine on its mobile internet browsers.
The new collaboration, which covers all global territories except Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, will allow Opera Mobile or Opera Mini users to access Google´s mobile search directly from the browser start page.
According to Opera, over 1.7 billion web pages are browsed every month by Opera Mini users, with the browser´s search function generating the majority of the traffic.
Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive of Opera, commented: "Google and Opera have established a valuable relationship over the years and we look forward to continued collaboration on mobile products.
"With 2008 poised to be the year the mobile Web goes mainstream, Google and Opera are extending this collaboration to give our users immediate access to the quality and convenience of Google´s search results."
Google will become the default search engine for Opera Mini on March 1st 2008.
