Microsoft and HP team up on Google

03 June 2008

Microsoft and HP team up on Google In its fight to close the gap on Google, Microsoft will bundle its Live Search toolbar with every new Hewlett Packard (HP) PC in North America.

HP is the world´s biggest manufacturer of PCs and experts think the deal may have cost Microsoft more than Google´s deal with Dell in 2006 - which was rumoured to be worth more than $1 billion (£500 million) - according to the Register.

Kevin Johnson, president of the platforms & services division at Microsoft, said: "This is the most significant distribution deal for Live Search that Microsoft has ever done, and we are very pleased to be partnering with HP to help bring Live

"[The agreement] with HP is a strategic indicator of our increased focus on securing broad-scale distribution for Live Search."

There is growing concern of a Googopoly stamping out competition in the search engine market.

But after its record-breaking fine of £681 million for anti-competitive behaviour earlier this year, there is no news that Microsoft will install its Live Search on European PCs.
