Google tests video ads in search results
Google began testing the use of video ads on some of its search result pages last week, the New York Times has reported.
Initially the videos will not be very prominent, being indicated only by a small button with a plus sign attached to the relevant advert.
By clicking on this button, internet users can access a video player that streams the commercial or film trailer.
In an interview, Marissa Mayer, vice president of search products and user experience for Google, indicated that in the future the video ad could also appear as a small thumbnail photo.
However, she added that the company is taking a "delicate" approach, remarking: "We don“t want all sorts of video and banner ads all over the site all the time."
While video ad attachments do not cost extra for advertisers, they have to pay when users watch the video, regardless of whether they subsequently click through to their site.
