´Google-phone´ slated for 2008 release
Google´s much-anticipated mobile phone will possibly be available from around the middle of next year, according to speculation.
The search giant has yet to even confirm it is producing a Google-powered handset, but industry commentators believe applications and software will be available for it in 2008.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is in discussions with Verizon and Sprint Nextel regarding using its operating system in mobile phones.
The paper said that the company is likely to announce the software, from which Google-run handsets could be developed, at some stage in November.
Gartner analyst Phillip Redman told PC World that because Google is an "attractive" brand, "there will be takers" for a collaboration on the phone.
The company recently failed to secure a stake in successful social networking site Facebook, after Microsoft was instead awarded a 1.6 per cent share for $240 million.
