Just under 66 per cent of US searches during December were accounted for by Google, a record for the search giant.
According to figures from Hitwise, 65.98 per cent of US searches were made via Google in the four weeks to December 29th, up from 65.1 per cent the month before.
Yahoo! accounted for 20.88 per cent of searches, MSN Search took 7.04 per cent and Ask received 4.14 per cent of searches.
The other 49 search engines accounted for a combined total of 1.71 per cent of searches in the US.
Wikia, a new search engine from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, was launched earlier this month. It incorporates user data in its result rankings, as opposed to relying on the algorithms employed by Google.
