Continued privacy concerns for Chrome
Google has come under renewed pressure from privacy campaigners over its new web browser Chrome.
The leading search engine´s new open-source browser collects keystroke information from two per cent of users as they type.
Gathered through Google Suggest, which provides users with suggestions for searches as they type, the keystroke information will be made anonymous within 24 hours, the company claimed.
The company´s senior vice-president of operations Urs Hölzle said: "Given the concerns that have been raised about Google storing this information we [have] decided that we will anonymise it within about 24 hours."
Mr Holzle added that the process will take about a month to implement.
Earlier this week a spokesperson for Germanys Federal Bureau for Information Technology Security said people should avoid using Google´s new browser, claiming it is risky for users to hand over so much data to a single company, especially while the product is in beta testing.
