BBC streams 50m Olympic videos
During the Beijing Olympics the BBC streamed around 50 million videos from its website.
The BBC claimed it had served 9.7 million hours of on-demand content during the games and regularly pulled in 100,000 viewers with its online video, according to mad.co.uk.
More than 500,000 people watched sprinter Ursain Bolt´s 200m world record winning dash, more than half the amount that read about the story on the news providers website, the news provider said.
John O´Donovan, chief architect of BBC Future Media & Technology, told the marketing news site the figures would ensure the BBC would rethink how video was promoted and delivered.
The news comes as Amazon opens its video on-demand service, which allows users to stream content through their PCs.
According to Reuters, Amazon is planning to air free TV and film features on its movie database website imdb.com.
The company claims it will make more than 6,000 titles available to the public free of charge, including popular TV series like 24 and Heroes.
